RV and motor home sales to increase in 2014

Here’s some great news for those of us who follow RV related topics in the news: an industry group is predicting that RV and motor home sales will see big increases in 2014 due to the improving economy and consumer confidence.

According to a article in Forbes magazine, the head of the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association is predicting that shipments of RV’s will grow by about six percent next year.  Richard Coon, president of the RVIA, said at a recent trade show that an additional 335,000 units will be shipped in 2014, which would make it the fifth year in a row for growth in the RV and travel trailer market.

Recently, the biggest growth in the RV marked has been in type A motor homes and conventional travel trailers.  In fact, it is expected that there will be more than 300,000 RV unit shipments when all is said and done in 2013, which is the highest it has been in years.  According to Coon, RV’s are becoming more “visible, popular and even cool.”

Manufacturing in Indiana

The majority of RV manufacturing happens in the state of Indiana, and the $11 billion RV industry provides jobs for more than a quarter million people across the country.

It isn’t just an improving economy that is expected to drive RV sales up in 2014.  New products will be coming out next year, too, including a new fifth-wheel Winnebago called Destination.

Coon warns, though, that forecasts about an improving RV market could still be affected by several factors in 2014.  Although the economy is improving, Coon said, that could change if political leaders fail to promote government programs and policies that foster growth.
